Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1Day

    Arrival and transfer to Gangtok

    Met at Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri station and driven up to Gangtok at 1,650m, about 4.5 hours alongside the Teesta. Evening on MG Marg, the car-free boulevard through the middle of town.

  2. 2Day

    Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass

    The permit day. Up the old Silk Route to Tsomgo Lake at 3,780m, on to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, and Nathula Pass at 4,310m on the Tibet border where permits allow. Back to Gangtok by evening.

  3. 3Day

    Gangtok monasteries and viewpoints

    Rumtek Monastery, seat in exile of the Karmapa, then Enchey Monastery, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and the Do Drul Chorten. Afternoon free for the ropeway or the handicraft centre.

  4. 4Day

    Ravangla and south Sikkim

    Drive south to Ravangla for the 41-metre Buddha at Tathagata Tsal, with the Kanchenjunga range behind it on a clear day. Temi tea garden and Ralang Monastery on the return.

  5. 5Day

    Departure

    Drive down to Bagdogra or New Jalpaiguri for onward flights and trains. Extensions to Pelling, Darjeeling or the Bhutan border at Jaigaon arranged on request.
